TWO NEW PROJECTS BY VCA AT THE COOPER CENTER ...
The VCA annual meeting was held, Thursday, Jan. 26th and part of the Volcano Long Range Plan includes beginning two community projects at Cooper Center: a rain forest nature trail, along with forest restoration, and an educational-demonstration garden. These concepts have been approved by Cooper Center Council and plans are being developed for implementation. These projects will enhance the campus at Cooper Center and provide recreational and learning opportunities.
Tentative plans are for the loop interpretive trail to start and end behind the playground. Invasive plants such as kahili ginger and strawberry guava will be removed to allow the forest to
recover. The demonstration garden will feature outdoor gardening and greenhouse techniques suited to the Volcano climate and provide opportunities to learn about sustainable agriculture and
native plant propagation. Classes will be offered during the year as part of the two projects ....
Sincerely,
